Your CYC-Powered eBike
Your eBike conversion kit will never stay as spotless as the day you installed it.
Whether you ride MTB trails, gravel paths, or daily city routes, your Photon 2, Photon Pro or X1 Pro 4 will eventually collect dust, mud, and debris. Regular maintenance helps your system stay reliable and ensures better performance on every ride. Before you begin any cleaning or service, always disconnect the battery. This applies to storage, transport, and all types of maintenance. Avoid opening the drive unit unless you are replacing a specific component.
Cleaning
Use a damp cloth and gently clean the following areas:
- Motor exterior
- Bashguard
- Chainring and chain guard
- Wiring and visible connectors
Clean water is enough. Avoid using soap, degreasers, or chemical cleaners directly on the motor, as these products may affect seals or internal components.
If dirt builds up between the bashguard, motor housing, or controller, use a small brush such as a toothbrush to loosen it. This helps you reach spots a cloth cannot.
While Photon 2, Photon Pro and X1 Pro 4 are designed to handle outdoor conditions, try to avoid:
- Soaking the motor
- Spraying water at close range
- Submerging the motor or controller
Let the bike dry completely before reconnecting the battery.
Self-Servicing
There is no strict schedule for self-servicing. A quick check before and after your rides will help you spot small issues early.
Look for signs of grease leaking from the gearbox area. Make sure the external housing looks intact and free from cracks.
Rough terrain can loosen hardware over time. Check your:
- Motor mount bolts
- Chainring bolts
- Crank bolts
Tighten anything that feels loose.
Make sure all connections are seated properly and that there are no damaged wires or pinched cables.
Check the chain for proper tension and lubrication. Use standard chain cleaner and chain lube when needed.
Our CYC systems are built to operate smoothly. If you notice new noises or changes in performance, stop riding and inspect the system. Addressing small signs early often prevents bigger issues later.
If Something Feels Off
If you notice unusual wear or the system does not feel right, it is best to pause and check before continuing your ride.
