Your battery plays a major role in how your CYC mid‑drive system performs. Voltage, capacity, discharge rate, and cell quality all determine how much power your motor can deliver and how far you can ride before recharging.

With the introduction of the A‑Series and our flagship A‑65, riders now have access to batteries engineered specifically for high‑performance mid‑drives. This guide explains the engineering behind our battery lineup and how to correctly configure your X‑Series controller to match your system.

Every battery is built on a few core specifications that determine its behavior:

Voltage (V)

Higher voltage increases potential motor output. It directly influences how “strong” your system feels.

Capacity (Ah)

Indicates how much energy the battery can store. A higher capacity pack will ride longer before needing a recharge.

Watt-hours (Wh)

Voltage × capacity. This is the most realistic measurement of range potential.

Continuous Discharge (A)

Determines how much sustained load the battery can support. Important for high-torque motors.

Setting Up Your Battery Using X-Series Controllers

Your X-Series controller uses a minimum voltage setting to protect your battery from excessive sag or deep discharge. If improperly configured, performance can drop or the controller may shut down.

  • Open the Ride Control App.
  • Ensure your phone is connected to your eBike wirelessly.
  • Navigate to Battery Settings.
  • Adjust the minimum voltage based on the recommended values below.
  • Save your settings to keep them active.

Setting up your battery's minimum voltage

The key to finding the ideal minimum voltage setting is to match it with your ebike's battery specifications. For example: If your battery has a nominal voltage of 52V, it's recommended to set the minimum voltage in the Ride Control app to around 44V or 45V. This ensures sufficient power and range while protecting your battery's health.
You can set it lower than recommended since your battery's BMS will also have a cut-off voltage programmed into it. We have added this setting for additional protection.
For improved battery life, we encourage you to refer to our recommended cut-off voltages below but please note that this is set up using the 21700 Samsung 50s cells found in our A-series packs. The recommended minimum voltage for the 50s cell is 3.2V.

Please note that the Photon 2 kits are compatible with 52V, if you select a higher battery voltage in the app, you will receive an error of controller over voltage. When looking at batteries, it's important to understand what the specifications can offer you. There's more to it than simply looking at power capabilities.
