Compatibility & fitment
Will a CYC mid-drive kit fit my bike?
Most likely yes. CYC mid-drive conversion kits fit the large majority of bikes with a standard bottom bracket, including BSA/threaded (68/73/83mm), and PressFit BB92 with the correct adapter. They work with hardtails, full-suspension frames, gravel, commuter and cargo bikes. The main exception is frames with proprietary bottom brackets such as Trek BB90/BB95, where the bearings press directly into the carbon and no mid-drive can be fitted.
Which bottom bracket standards does CYC support?
CYC supports BSA/threaded (68, 73 and 83mm), and PressFit BB92/BB86 with a CYC adapter. PF30, BB30 and T47 frames are supported using a press-to-thread adapter sleeve. Fat-bike widths (100mm and 120mm) are available on select platforms. Trek BB90/BB95 is not compatible.
How do I know my bottom bracket type?
Measure the width of your bottom bracket shell (typically 68 to 120mm) and its internal diameter with a caliper. Threaded BSA shells are about 34mm internal; PressFit BB92 is 41mm; PF30 is 46mm. If you are unsure, contact CYC support with your frame model and we will confirm compatibility.
Will the kit affect my chainline or Q-factor?
No, when set up correctly. CYC uses direct-mount CNC chainrings (32T and 34T on the Photon platforms) with a built-in inward offset that preserves a standard 52mm chainline and a symmetric Q-factor, avoiding the knee strain and chain cross that cheaper kits can cause. Spacers (3, 5 and 7mm) are included to fine-tune alignment on threaded frames.
Torque sensing & ride feel
What is a torque sensor and why does it matter?
A torque sensor measures the actual force you put through the pedals and adjusts motor power in milliseconds, so assistance feels proportional and natural, like a premium factory ebike. This is different from cadence-only kits, which simply switch power on when the pedals turn, producing a more abrupt, scooter-like feel. Every CYC Photon and X1 platform uses torque sensing.
How is CYC different from a Bafang kit?
The core difference is ride feel and integration. CYC drive systems use a torque sensor for natural, proportional assist and a compact, lighter design with wide bottom-bracket compatibility, while most Bafang kits use a cadence sensor. CYC also uses CANBUS electronics and the Intuition display with the Ride Control app.
Power, speed & US legality
How much power and torque do CYC kits produce?
It depends on the platform: the Photon 2 delivers 135 Nm (750W nominal / 2000W peak), the Photon Pro delivers 180 Nm (3000W nominal / 4000W peak), and the X1 Pro Gen 4 delivers 280 Nm (5000W continuous, 6000W+ peak). The Photon 2 is the right choice for street-legal riding; the Photon Pro and X1 Pro are high-power platforms for off-road and performance builds.
Are CYC kits street legal in the US?
It depends on how you configure the system and your local laws. In the US, a Class 1/2/3 ebike is generally limited to 750W nominal and 20 to 28 mph of assist. The Photon 2 (750W nominal) can be configured within Class 1, 2 or 3 limits using the Ride Control app, where you can set speed and power caps. Higher-power platforms like the Photon Pro and X1 Pro exceed Class limits and are intended for private land and off-road use. Always check your state and local regulations.
Can I limit the speed and power?
Yes. The Ride Control app lets you set speed and power limits and choose pedal-assist behavior, so you can configure the system for Class 1, 2 or 3 riding or unlock full performance where it is legal to do so.
Batteries & range
Which battery should I choose?
Choose by the range you need: the A-52 (520Wh) is the compact, lightweight option for shorter rides and commuting; the A-52L (780Wh) balances range and weight for most riders; and the A-65 (1300Wh) gives maximum range for long days, cargo and high-power builds. All A-Series packs use high-discharge 21700 cells with CANBUS communication.
How much range will I get?
Range depends on the battery, terrain, rider weight, assist level and how much you pedal. As a general guide, higher-capacity packs like the A-65 (1300Wh) deliver substantially more range than the A-52 (520Wh); riding at lower assist and pedaling more extends range significantly.
What cells do CYC batteries use?
CYC A-Series batteries use high-discharge 21700 cells, which offer higher energy density and better sustained output than the older 18650 cells found in many kits. They communicate with the drive system over CANBUS and sync data to the Intuition display and Ride Control app.
Installation, display & maintenance
How hard is it to install a CYC kit?
A CYC mid-drive kit is a bolt-on conversion that a competent home mechanic can install with common tools, or that any bike shop can fit. The motor mounts in place of your bottom bracket. We provide installation guides and videos, and our dealer network can install it for you.
What is the Intuition display?
The Intuition is a 2.1-inch high-brightness IPS color display that shows speed, battery and ride data, controls the system, and connects over Bluetooth to the Ride Control app for tuning pedal assist, throttle and speed/power limits.
Is the motor serviceable?
Yes. CYC drive systems are designed to be modular and serviceable: the controller, torque sensor and reduction module can be replaced as independent parts, and the reinforced sprag clutch and drive components are designed for durability under high torque.
Warranty, support & dealers
Do you have a warranty?
Yes. CYC products are covered by a manufacturer warranty. For the current warranty terms and coverage for your specific kit, contact CYC support or your authorized dealer.
Where can I buy or get support?
You can order directly from cycmotor.com or through the CYC dealer network. For technical help, spare parts or compatibility questions, contact CYC support or find an authorized dealer near you.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, CYC ships to many countries. Delivery times vary by destination; US orders typically arrive within a few weeks. See checkout or contact CYC for shipping options and lead times for your location.
